A.D. has worked as a professional artist and designer since 1980
and is best known for his award-winning series of photo-realistic
motorcycle-inspired
paintings, and for the dozens of large murals
showcasing movie stars and celebrities that he created for the
Hollywood Video stores during his five years. A.D.'s focus is on
creating realistic large-scale paintings tastefully showcasing
the female form. These paintings are typically created
life-size and larger.
Art is about passion, vision and talent, which you may experience
first-hand on ADCookFineArt.com. This web site provides a visual
exploration into the dramatic images delicately and carefully captured
forever on each large canvas.
A.D.'s original paintings
are hard to
appreciate by simply visiting a web site. His paintings
are dramatic in size, quality, texture and impact. They can be
enjoyed from across the room
or from just inches away. They're realistic to the point of being
illusionary, yet stylized enough to be interesting. They are true
creative expressions of the artist, in amazing detail.
We take an "old-school,
hands-on" approach to everything we do here. We take a pride in what we
do, and the art that bears A.D.'s signature. We firmly believe that hand made
art
is essential, as are quality and craftsmanship.
Technically Speaking...
A highly skilled photographer
in his own right, A.D. works from his own photo reference, collaborating
with models to achieve the precise imagery in his vision.
A.D.'s original works are typically
painted in acrylics on specially-prepared slate-smooth
canvas - museum-wrapped with 1-1/2" stretcher bars.Many
layers of gesso are hand-worked into the canvas material and then meticulously
wet-sanded to create a glass-smooth surface. The canvas is then sprayed to prime
the surface for art. << Details
on canvas prep can be read on this site by clicking here. >>
Finally, The art! Only after the surface is perfect, does A.D. begin a painting.
A lot of work and time goes into preparing a canvas, especially when you consider
the size of most originals. But with as much as has gone into preparing the canvas
for art, it's still just the beginning. Any given painting may take hundreds
of hours at the easel. But this is the exciting
part - the creative part.
With each hour the painting grows and evolves to reveal the passion and beauty
of the chosen piece. For A.D., this is what it's all about - the process
creating beautiful art that truly captures his vision and passion.
Finished paintings are treated with special UV resistant varnish to protect the
art and ensure a life-time of enjoyment and value. Different paintings receive
different finishes, but typically figurative originals receive a satin finish,
and paintings of mechanical items (like motorcycles) get a glossier finish (this
isn't a hard rule, just a general guide for viewing the site).
All this preparation and finish work provides for an extremely smooth painting
- especially for canvas art. The outside edges are painted to compliment the
art. Unless otherwise noted all original art is sold unframed, however
all visible edges are finished and each painting is ready to hang.
